What A Schoolteacher Can Teach You
Everyone says China will rule the world sometime soon.

I'm not sure if that's true.

But without a doubt one of the greatest rags-to-riches stories in human history comes from a Chinese school teacher who founded an internet shopping company that's now bigger than eBay and Amazon.

I'm at this resort today reading my Book of the Day, "Alibaba's World: How a Remarkable Chinese Company is Changing the Face of Global Business". It tells how Jack Ma went from making $20/day in an old apartment to building a 300 million customer global empire that recently sold $9.8 billion in just one day.

Here's a few notes for you:

1. To catch your competitors meet them in your niche strength: Jack Ma said, "eBay may be a shark in the ocean, but I am a crocodile in the Yangtze River. If we fight in the ocean, we lose - but if we fight in the river we win."

2. Optimism vs. Realism: "Today is cruel. Tomorrow is crueler. And the day after tomorrow is beautiful."

3. At the beginning give things away for free: "Jack Ma argued that with the market still in its infancy, it was too soon to charge customers... A 'free for three years' marketing push helped attract new users."

The world is changing fast.

Make sure you keep up so you don't get left behind.

It's great to be alive in a world where people from every country like Jack Ma are rising up from the ashes to do big things.
